Health Promotion & Wellbeing

Importance of Health & Wellbeing

The health of a people determines the quality of the collective future they will have. Health, according to the WHO, is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

We believe that a strong future Saint Lucia depends on a population where health promotion and wellbeing are central. There are numerous causes and projects that fall within this theme. From this we can see there are numerous opportunities to serve others in an effort to ensure their health chances are optimised.

Causes & Projects We Support

The causes below are some of the main ones we currently champion but it is not exhaustive. If you would like to support us and don’t see your favourite cause below, please  get in touch!

Diabetes Prevention & Awareness

Rationale

The prevalence of Diabetes in Saint Lucia is one the country’s main public health concerns. It has one of  the highest registered diabetic prevalence per capita in the OECS and one of the highest in the Caribbean and World! WHO data published in 2018, ranks Saint Lucia #40 in the world, with deaths in Saint Lucia reached 116 or 10.25% of total deaths.

Our Plan

We will initiate various public education awareness programs and fundraising activities whilst working closely with other stakeholders dedicated to fighting Diabetes.

Can you help us? If yes,

Sickle Cell Disease

Rationale

Sickle Cell Disease or SCD is a red blood cell disorder. It is inherited. That means that it’s passed down the same way people get the colour of their eyes, skin, and hair from their parents. It is estimated to affect 1 of 150 new-born in Saint Lucia. It has become a major public health concern as it continues to affect a number of the population.

Our Plan

We will initiate various public education awareness programs  and fundraising activities whilst working closely with other stakeholders dedicated to fighting Sickle Cell Disease.

Can you help us?

Breast Cancer

Rationale

Data published that the WHO in 2018 suggest Breast Cancer Deaths in Saint Lucia reached 26 or 2.30% of total deaths, ranking it Saint Lucia #17 in the world. According to the Bureau Health Education, Breast Cancer has been the leading cause of death amongst women since 2006.

Our Plan

We will initiate various public education awareness programs and fundraising activities whilst working closely with other stakeholders dedicated to fighting Breast Cancer.

Can you help us? If yes,

Prostate Cancer

Rationale

According to the latest WHO data published in 2018 Prostate Cancer Deaths in Saint Lucia reached 51 or 4.51% of total death, ranking it 11th in the world. It is estimated that every year, 40-50 men in St. Lucia are diagnosed with prostate cancer, and many more may have prostate cancer but not know about it.

Our Plan

Our plan is to initiate a number of public education awareness programs and fundraising activities whilst working closely with other stakeholders dedicated to fighting this largely preventable disease.

Can you help us? If yes,

Colorectal cancer

Rationale

Colorectal cancer starts in the colon or the rectum. These cancers can also be called colon cancer or rectal cancer, depending on where they start. Colon cancer and rectal cancer are often grouped together because they have many features in common. Cancer starts when cells in the body start to grow out of control.  According to the International Agency for Global Cancer, it ranks the 3rd highest cancer in Saint Lucia.

Our Plan

Our plan is to initiate a number of public education awareness programs and fundraising activities whilst working closely with other stakeholders dedicated to fighting this group of largely preventable disease.
