Fundraising &The Law
Be Informed.
Know The Law - Check The Rules
Charity fundraising is regulated by law. Laws must be followed. We do not want you getting on the other side of the Law because you did not know. So please be sure know any rules and regulations that apply to your event before you start. This is particularly relevant if you are running a raffle or any other prize draw.
Do You Need A License?
We strongly recommend that you check with your local council whether you need any licences for your event – for example for public entertainment, alcohol or raffles. If you’re collecting in a public place, you will need a licence to use collections buckets and each council has different rules about this. So please check with your Local Council Office. When in doubt, always check. Please click here to find contact information for your Local Council.
Make Sure You Have Permission
It is possible you will need permission from a few people based on what you are planning to do. It is best to do so instead of guessing if you do or not.If in doubt, always check a credible source first. Please observe the following where you will need to get permission first.
- PHOTOS/IMAGES - You will also need permission from individuals in any of your pictures online or in promotional materials.
- PRIVATE PROPERTY - You will need permission from the owner if you’re fundraising on private property.
- PUBLIC PLACES - You need permission to collect money or advertise in shops, libraries and other public places.
- CHILDREN - You will need permission in written form from parents if you want to take any photos/videos of their children – and be clear what they will be used for.
- And if participating in collecting donations or fundraising, any children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
