Importance of Sustainability Development
This theme of our Voluntary Service Framework is the main plank which cements and balances our economic, environmental and social needs, allowing prosperity for now and future generations.
Development is Sustainable when it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
These include social progress and equality, environmental protection, conservation of natural resources and stable economic growth. This is especially important for resource strapped countries like Saint Lucia.
The essence of sustainability is a stable relationship between human activities and the natural world, which does not diminish the prospects for future generations to enjoy a quality of life at least as good as our own. We want to contribute to activities that will promote such principles. If this is an area that interest you, do get in touch and let us begin making small steps towards the future.
The Agribusiness School
Sustainable farming practices allows for production of healthy foods without destroying the ability of future generations to do the same. It is about using farming practices that considers the ecological cycles by promoting methods and practices that are economically viable, environmentally sound and protect public health.
We believe that as part of a wider narrative of national development, there is a place for promoting and educating small scale farmers who would concentrate on the economic aspect of farming, but also on the use of non-renewable factors in the process thoughtfully and effectively.
It is our plan to explore working with relevant stakeholders who has similar interest in our sustainable development initiatives. As part of this plan, we hope to offer through our Vocational Training Academy an Agribusiness School to deliver on our sustainable goals.
Aside from general youth engagement initiatives, this unique program will be targeted at nurturing those that may have aspirations to participate in the leadership and governance of the country. We believe that local problems can be solved locally. But it takes a collective willingness and some ingenuity.
This plan is about building local collaboration with community constituents encouraging them to identify creative solutions to community problems. We also plan to establish a practical Farming School, through our Vocational Training Academy.
